  • It can help to deal with stress.
  • It will help aid relaxation , help develop a more postive outlook and therefore help with the birth. A happy ,relaxed mother is one who is more likely to cope well with labour and to relax and bond with her baby afterwards
  • It can help with tiredness, aches and pains and provide relief from all kinds of minor pregnancy related ailments.
  • It can help back up and complement what is learnt at relaxation and antenatal classes. Women who have experinced Aromatherapy are more likely to benefit from the relaxation techniques they learn
  • It can help to prevent stretch marks by helping to keep the skin well nourished, and aid in helping the mother to feel good about herself during pregnancy.
  • Mothers to be who experience the benefits of aromatherapy are more likely to be in touch with their own bodies and their pregnancies which benefits both mother and baby.
  • The caring touch of a massage, either from a qualified Aromatherapist or from a partner is highly therapeutic. A woman who can appreciate the touch she receives  while being massaged is more likely to bond well with her baby using her own tactile sense.

" The best way to receive an Aromatherapy massage is from a qualified practitioner. But having a massage from your partner or a friend at home is still beneficial and always wellcome!. Gentle foot massage is especially recommended to help relieve tired and aching legs, swollen feet and fluid retention.,-plus it can help alleviate tension and revive and re-energise a tired body. Enjoying Aromatherapy in Pregnancy

  • From pregnancy right through to birth and post-natal days, essential oils can help increase feelings of well being, encourage restful sleep, soothe discomforts and help keep skin supple.
  • But while essential oils can offer excellent support, they should to be chosen and used with care during pregnancy and labour when breastfeeding and for young children.
  • It's generally accepted that essential oils shouldn't be used during the first three months of pregnancy. At no other time will you be more aware of what you are eating and drinking, or applying to your skin.
  • During these early months enormous changes are going on in the body, and some essential oils are considered too stimulating or strong for a pregnant woman’s vulnerable system.
  • Some essential oils are not suitable for use in pregnancy and lactation. During this time we recommend you use the Allison England Aromatherapy Mother and baby range of products formulated for use during pregnancy and labour; or consult a qualified Aromatherapist.

Massage

"Massage can help you to feel good about yourself, which is of course brings enormous benefit to well-being.

If this wasn’t convincing enough, research studies have shown a decrease in anxiety and stress hormones following pregnancy massage." Allison England

During and after pregnancy women  deserve  a little pampering

  • Massage has such a positive effect on our emotions and it may be one of your first experiences with Aromatherapy. In pregnancy, with or without essential oils, massage is always welcome and can help you and your partner, feel close to your baby.
  • Massage can help relax the whole body and relieve the feelings of tiredness and fatigue so common in late pregnancy.
  • It Helps improve circulation and posture, lower high blood pressure and alleviate the stiffness and aches and pains that come with the heaviness of pregnancy.
  • Gentle foot massage is especially recommended to help relieve tired and aching legs, swollen feet and fluid retention.,-plus it can help alleviate tension and revive and re-energise a tired body. All- in- all massage can help you to feel good about yourself, which is of course brings enormous benefit to well-being.
  • If this wasn’t convincing enough, research studies have shown a decrease in anxiety and stress hormones following pregnancy massage.
  • Try the following products:
  •  Massage is not advisable in the first three to four months of pregnancy. Please see  the following:

Skin Care

  • During early pregnancy fluctuating hormones can make skin temperamental. You may be prone to spots or oily skin one month, followed by dry skin the next. Skin may also become more sensitive and you may find it reacting to products you have used before, or to new ones.
  • When using a new product patch test first, and if a reaction- such as redness, itching or pimples occurs- stop using it.
  • Keep your skin care regime simple and take a fresh look at the skin care products you are using. Swap chemical laden creams, facial toners and shower gels for products that contain mild natural ingredients.
  • Choose soothing hydrosols such as Neroli, Camomile and Rose to help freshen, cool and cleanse skin. Look for moisturisers and facial oils that contain natural emollients such as Shea butter, Jojoba, Avocado and Rose hip.
  • Skin care is important for your expanding abdomen too. Nourishing plant oils or creams containing essential oils can help keep skin healthy, supple and elastic. When used regularly, they can keep skin toned and moisturised relieving the tightness, stretching and itching associated with pregnancy weight gain. Keep other areas, such as breasts, thighs, buttocks and upper arms, well moisturised too.

Essential oil Baths

  • Aromatic baths, using specially chosen essential oils, can help aid restful sleep, ease discomfort and encourage relaxation while the soothing aromas vapours help to increase feelings of well being
  • Pure essentials oils are very concentrated. During  pregnancy, add no more than 3 or 4 drops in a full warm bath.
  • Agitate (swish) the water around thoroughly to disperse the drops. Alternatively add drops to 5ml of full fat milk.
  • Caution –we never advise adding carrier oils or ready prepared massage oils to the bath. They can make the bath slippery and you could easily fall. This is a hazard for anyone, but especially so during pregnancy, for children, the elderly and those with limited mobility. These thick oils also cling to the side of the bath and make it notoriously difficult to clean! You make see products advertised as 'Bath and massage/body oils' -avoid them !
  • The best time to use body oils to help moisturise your skin is after a bath or shower, as freshly washed skin will be more receptive to the nourishing properties of the oils.
