Skin care in Pregnancy

Skin Care

  • During early pregnancy fluctuating hormones can make skin temperamental. You may be prone to spots or oily skin one month, followed by dry skin the next. Skin may also become more sensitive and you may find it reacting to products you have used before, or to new ones.
  • When using a new product patch test first, and if a reaction- such as redness, itching or pimples occurs- stop using it.
  • Keep your skin care regime simple and take a fresh look at the skin care products you are using. Swap chemical laden creams, facial toners and shower gels for products that contain mild natural ingredients.
  • Choose soothing hydrosols such as Neroli, Camomile and Rose to help freshen, cool and cleanse skin. Look for moisturisers and facial oils that contain natural emollients such as Shea butter, Jojoba, Avocado and Rose hip.
  • Skin care is important for your expanding abdomen too. Nourishing plant oils or creams containing essential oils can help keep skin healthy, supple and elastic. When used regularly, they can keep skin toned and moisturised relieving the tightness, stretching and itching associated with pregnancy weight gain. Keep other areas, such as breasts, thighs, buttocks and upper arms, well moisturised too.
